Crytek arms up $750 video game…

Maybe I am missing something but how do these companies think people will buy a $699 piece of equipment to play a $49.99 video game…

Crytek the makers of Far Cry and Crysis have a new game coming out titled Crysis Warhead. Crysis and Far Cry were long criticized for requiring way too much computer hardware to run at a decent frame rate. Frame Rate is how many times per second the image is refreshed on the screen. If it is anything less than 30 frames per second the user will notice slowdown and the game becomes somewhat unplayable.

So enter Crytek who is out to prove their game can run on a “lesser” computer. To prove this statement they are going to release a $699 computer called the Warhead PC. The rumor is this machine will contain an intel dual core chip and a Nvidia 9800GT video card. What I do not understand is will casual gamers actually pay $699 for the opportunity to play Crysis Warhead when they can pick up a PlayStation 3, an extra controller, a copy of Madden and still have money left over for a few dozen pizzas?

It seems to me like the computer gaming business is dying and unless your name is Warcraft, Blizzard, Diablo, ID Games or Conan you should just give up. Crytek enjoy your partnership with EA and Ultra PC cause the only thing this “Warhead PC” is going to do is warm up my small office at work.
